The starting salary for new teachers will increase to just over $50,000 a year. The new raises are in addition to stipends approved by voters in 2022. Broward Schools Superintendent Peter Licata said this contract gives an 11% increase per teacher in total compensation.
The Broward County School Board voted 6-3 to approve a new contract with the Broward Teachers Union. It gives teachers anywhere from a 3.65 to 4.56% raise. The starting salary is now $50,266. Plus, every teacher gets a nearly 11% supplement from the bond referendum approved by voters.
Originally, the state allocated $500-million to raise teacher salaries to a target of $47,500. In 2024-25, the state allocated a little over $1.2-billion for this purpose, but instead of including it as a separate categorical within the FEFP, it is now part of the base salary.
