The cover sheet must include the following: All grantors, grantees, and identify surname if applicable. Amount of consideration and actual value if a deed or instrument. State the Virginia or Federal law under which any exemption from recordation taxes being claimed. Tax map or pin number. Who to return to after recordation.
You may obtain the deed book and page number by searching for the document in the Court Public Access Network (“CPAN”) on one of the public computers in the Land Records Research Room or through a subscription. Subscribers to CPAN are able to make non-certified copies from their own computer.
Standard Requirements for Recording All documents must have original signatures. NO PHOTOCOPIES ACCEPTED. If the document is handwritten, it must be legible. Print quality must be legible for the scanner to read and produce an acceptable image.
