FAQ

There are two types of permits for managers, bartenders, servers and other employees who sell or supervise the sale of alcohol. To serve alcohol in Washington, you will need a Class 12 Mixologist permit or a Class 13 Servers permit.

To obtain a bartending license in Washington, you must complete the Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (MAST), apply for a liquor license, and obtain either a Class 12 or Class 13 permit. The MAST is provided by certified third-party providers and can be taken online or in a classroom setting.

Upon successful completion of the course and exam, your provider will mail you a MAST permit and report the completion to the WSLCB within 30 days.

What States Require A Bartending License? Washington: Requires Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (MAST) Permit. Oregon: Requires Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) Permit. Arizona: Requires Arizona Alcohol Seller and Server Certification. Alaska: Requires Alaska Alcohol Seller Certification.

A MAST permit is required within 60 days of the initial hire for servers, bartenders and managers working at on-premises liquor licensed establishments. If you are conducting alcohol samplings or tastings at an approved location, you must hold a Class 12 permit and be able to present it upon inspection.

You must have your MAST permit and a valid form of ID readily available for inspection by law enforcement any time you perform duties that include the sale, service or handling of alcohol. The permit is your property, not the property of your employer.

A Class 12 MAST Permit or alcohol permit in Washington is for any person who draws, mixes, or serves alcoholic beverages that is at least 21 years of age. Class 12 liquor license holders are also permitted to serve and pour beer and wine at a customer's table.

After passing your knowledge and riding skills test, you will be given a green score sheet, which you will then need to take to a Washington State licensing office within 180 days to claim your motorcycle license.
