The Model 783 features a steel detachable magazine. Standard calibers have a four round capacity and magnum calibers hold three rounds. Like with all Remington bolt actions, expect a lifetime of rock-solid reliability.
Not the same. 783 has a barrel nut like a Savage. I also believe the 783 is more round (same from to back)instead of more flat on the back end. Thus needing differant rings than a 700.

Promoted as the 'workhorse' of the current line-up, it survived the turmoil of the Remington bankruptcy and now in the new era is still in production, filling a niche as an entry-level centrefire.
Despite the barrel showing all sorts of tooling marks, the rifle consistently hit three-shot groups at 100 yards within an inch. For a hunting rifle, that's impressive accuracy. Once properly sighted, the Model 783 had no problems hitting targets as far as 300 yards away.
The Remington website says that: "Model 783 accepts two Model 700™ front bases." The model 700 front and rear scope bases are different (front mount sits on rounded forward end of receiver and rear mount sits on flattened rear of receiver), so you need to get two front bases, not a front and rear.
