FAQ

Freshman students can apply to UMD using either the Common App or ApplyWeb platform.

Application Requirements The most competitive freshman applicants exceed these minimum requirements, earning a strong A-/B+ or better average in their high school coursework while taking several honors and/or Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses and additional academic electives.

For security and privacy reasons, we cannot reveal admission decisions over the phone or email. If you are offered admission to the University of Maryland (UMD), you will also receive a general welcome letter from our office in the mail a few days later.

The U of M has two applications: Golden Gopher Application and Common Application. We do not have a preference on which application a student submits, but students should only pick and submit one application. Students can begin applying the August before their senior year of high school.

Freshman applicants can submit applications through Common App or ApplyWeb. Transfer applicants must use ApplyWeb. Undergraduate admission applications must be completed online; UMD does not offer a paper application.

Monitor Your Application Status You may monitor the status of your application by logging back into the online graduate application using your user name and password. To put it simply, yes, your high school transcripts are required by pretty much every college as they're a key part of your academic record. They want to see your course rigor and how you performed in different subjects over time.

With a GPA of 4.45, University of Maryland requires you to be at the top of your class. You'll need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants. Furthermore, you should be taking hard classes - AP or IB courses - to show that college-level academics is a breeze.
