FAQ

GW requires a letter of recommendation from both your high school counselor and from at least one academic teacher. Both letters can be submitted directly by the recommender online through the Common Application's Teacher Evaluation form, emailed to gwadm@gwu, or mailed to our office.

The applicant may wish to submit updated high school or college transcripts, and/or updated test scores, as appropriate. Recommendation letters from counselors or teachers that know the applicant's academic and/or personal history are welcome, but not required.

Admission decision timeline All freshman autumn applicants are notified of their admission decision March 1-15. Decisions are released in batches and will be available to students on their MyUW during the notification window.

Decision notification Admitted students will receive an offer packet in the mail containing an official offer letter with assigned major, possible Purple & Gold scholarship offer (U.S. non-residents only), as well as other information about taking the next steps to becoming a Husky.

In general, we require three letters of recommendation, which may be submitted individually or collected for submission by a prior or current educational institution (“letter packet”).

The processing time until approval for the student visa can take between 5 to 8 weeks. This General Consulate recommends not purchasing plane tickets until your visa has been granted.

Letters of recommendation Applicants should ask for recommendations from people able to rank the applicant's performance as a student, researcher or employee. Note: Applicants who earned their undergraduate degree from the University of Washington in the past two years are required to submit only one recommendation.

Although letters of recommendation are not required, they are taken into consideration if they are helpful in speaking to the student's academic potential and abilities.
