Appointments may be delayed or cancelled, including if NCTS are not given accurate information and/or are unable to contact the person who has made the Appointment and/or the primary cardholder for the Appointment.
If a vehicle's NCT is "cancelled", it means that the scheduled NCT appointment has been revoked. This could happen for a few reasons, such as the vehicle not being brought in for its inspection, or the owner cancelling the appointment.
It is technically illegal to drive without an NCT, and always has been, but usually the guards will be sound and let it slide if you show them proof of your booking.
Obviously, one of the areas that can really be impacted by an out-of-date NCT is our insurance premium. Ordinarily, insurance companies won't cover a car that doesn't have a valid NCT disc. It is also an offence under Irish law to drive a car that is due a visit to the NCT.
CANCELLATION You can cancel an Appointment. Your right to cancel an Appointment starts from the date of the confirmation of your Appointment, which is when the agreement between us is formed. To cancel/rearrange an Appointment, log onto .ncts.ie.
Alternatively, you may lodge your complaint by phone directly with the Customer Service Department on (01) 413 5994. You may do this by detailing your complaint in full on a Complaint Form (QP 009/1) which can be obtained from the Test Centre or by phone from the Customer Service Department.
Car owners could be waiting up to six months for an NCT appointment. NCT testers have blasted no-shows as one of the reasons other drivers are waiting so long for a test date.
If a customer requires an earlier appointment than those available online, we ask you to please place yourself on the priority list and we will endeavour to get you an appointment within 28 days. The option to add your vehicle to the Priority list can be found during the booking process.
If you are unable to obtain an appointment at your chosen Test Centre you may add your vehicle to a priority list via our web booking facility or call centre. NCTS will do their best to accommodate you with a time and date that is convenient for you.
