The short answer is no. One of the stipulations to register a litter of puppies with the AKC is that both parents must be registered with the AKC as purebred.To quote the AKC website:...
A breeder can sell a puppy with registration papers and no breeding rights. The puppy is on what's called limited registration, which means the puppy is AKC registered but the progeny of that puppy is not eligible to be registered. Breeders often do that with pet puppies, and it's fine.

In the painful event of a serious dispute, a court is more likely to enforce terms that are clearly spelled out as essential to the Breeder's agreement to sell the puppy in the first place.
