Homeowners granted a homestead exemption in the previous year will receive a renewal application in the mail. Complete and return this to the Appraisal District before April 30 to maintain your exemption.
At the Harris County Appraisal District website of .hcad you can look up your account and see which if any exemptions have been applied to your account. In the top right corner of .hcad you can search for your account by account number, address or owner name.
If you have sold your property, or you own but no longer occupy the property as your primary residence, you can notify the appraisal district to update the ownership record or exemption status of the property. The forms are available at .hcad.
Exemption Status LookUp Under 'Property Search,' type in the address or Quick Reference ID Number of the property. Click on the Owner Information that populates pertaining to the property you are searching. On the Details page, under 'More Resources' select 'Exemption Status LookUp.
