Agent 47 is a fictional character and the player character of the Hitman video game franchise, created and developed by IO Interactive. He has been featured in all games of the series, as well as various spin-off media, including two theatrically released films, a series of comics, and two novels.
Hitman franchise has been a fan favorite for two decades already and that popularity has made it a lucrative target for making licensed movies. There are in fact two Hollywood movies made based on Hitman games: Hitman from 2007 and Hitman: Agent 47 from 2015.
A hitman, on the other hand, is a term that is often synonymous with contract killer although it can also be used to denote a criminal who frequently carries out a targeted killing (referred to as a "hit") on behalf of an organized crime syndicate to which they are affiliated with.
2007's Hitman is an adaptation of the beloved stealth video game and was Timothy Olyphant's first leading movie role, but Olyphant never returned for the 2015 follow-up, Hitman: Agent 47. The first movie follows Agent 47, a cloned super-assassin who uses stealth mechanics and creative methods to take out his targets.
Hitman 2015 is the best Hitman movie. Title said it all. This movie is like the only movie that depicts 47 in the right manner. Of course some place are still off but this movie is still way closer than the other 2007 one. 47 in the 2007 one is just some generic main character of a hitman movie.
