Most of the existing agricultural zones currently have one single-family house on them with some accessory buildings for agricultural uses. These are typically very large lots. Development standards for these agricultural uses are very similar to single-family residential development standards.

In 1952, the Cropland Act was enacted with the intention 'to stabilise the status of cultivators and boost domestic agricultural production'.

USDA defines a farm as any place that produced and sold—or normally would have produced and sold—at least $1,000 of agricultural products during a given year. USDA uses acres of crops and head of livestock to determine if a place with sales less than $1,000 could normally produce and sell at least that amount.
USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) also includes government payments as sales. In other words, a farm is defined as any place with any combination of sales, potential sales, and government payments totaling at least $1,000.
"Working agricultural land" means agricultural land for which an owner or producer engages in the activity of producing for commercial purposes crops, orchards, livestock, poultry, aquaculture, livestock products, or poultry products and the facilities, equipment, and property used to facilitate the activity.
(4) "Department" means the Department of Agriculture and Food created in Chapter 2, Administration.
Farm. A farm is defined as any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the year.
