An amendment to the Texas Constitution proposed by an adopted joint resolution requires approval by Texas voters at a general election. The secretary of state conducts a drawing to determine the order in which the proposed constitutional amendments will appear on the ballot.

A full restoration of rights, however, can only be achieved by submitting an application to the Clemency Section of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. Without being granted a pardon, a felon's right to possess a firearm is limited to the place where they are living.
In years prior, we ended sales of modern sporting rifles, including the AR-15. Most recently, in September 2019, we decided to no longer sell the ammunition that can be used in large capacity magazines on military-style weapons, which we do not sell. We also made a complete exit from handgun sales.
Handguns and other weapons are prohibited in these places: Secured areas of the Airport. Courthouse. Polling places on any voting days. Schools. Places of business with visible signage prohibiting handguns. Business permitted by TABC that derives 51% or more of its income from the sale of alcohol.
