If you are using the black cartridge, prints are in black and white (grayscale). If using the color cartridge, colors print normally but black prints lighter than usual. You can continue to print until the print quality becomes unacceptable.

When a colour ink cartridge is expended, it is possible to continue printing colour documents using the Black Print Mode option for a limited period. The following message appears on the printer's LCD panel when the colour ink has expended.

At the Windows Manage your device screen, click Printer properties. Click Preferences. From the Color Mode dropdown, choose either Color or Black and White.

Try this: Go to Print and a window should pop up. Some states have laws specifying ink color for notary stamps.Florida, Oregon, Missouri, and Illinois require notary stamps with black ink only. Many newer printers require color ink to also print black documents, and if there is no color ink they will not print black. Generally, the printer will mark the tanks as "Empty" so they cannot be reused. Filling it with liquid that is NOT ink is a bad idea. There is no requirement that the Notary's signature must be in a particular color. Right click on your printer and select Properties.
