The Consumer Protection Section's Economic Crimes division assists local law enforcement and prosecutors in identifying, investigating, and prosecuting consumer fraud of a criminal nature. The division consists of four attorneys and three investigators who are dedicated solely to criminal investigations.

The FTC enforces these truth-in-advertising laws, and it applies the same standards no matter where an ad appears – in newspapers and magazines, online, in the mail, or on billboards or buses.
Bait-and-switch tactics are illegal (OAC 1-3-03). Bait advertising occurs when a supplier offers goods or services for sale, but the offer is not a bona fide or “good faith” offer to sell the product or service.
