If you want to file a motion, the process is generally something like this: You write your motion. You file your motion with the court clerk. The court clerk inserts the date and time your motion will be heard by the judge. You “serve” (mail) your motion to the other side.

The procedure for raising disqualification is found in MCR 2.003(D). In trial courts, a judge may raise the issue, or a party may raise the issue by filing a motion within 14 days of disclosure of a judge's assignment to the case or within 14 days of the discovery of the grounds for disqualification.

Michigan Court Rule 2.119(F) does not specify a deadline for the judge to rule on the motion. However, MCR 8.107 recommends that judges decide motions within 35 days; if they fail do so within 56 days, judges must report that to the Michigan Supreme Court.
