Typically, a plaintiff will make its demand in the complaint filed at the outset of the case, and a defendant usually will make its demand in an answer to the complaint. If either party asks for a jury, the trial will be by jury.

Requesting an Excuse or Postponement If you request to excuse or postpone your jury service, you must place your request in writing at least seven (7) days prior to the summons date. You must include your completed Jury Information Form when submitting a request.

Section 40.23 of the Florida Statutes states that “failure to attend as a juror upon being duly summoned may result in a fine not to exceed $100.” If you fail to report for juror service, you will receive a failure to appear letter instructing you to contact the jury department.

Failure to complete and return a jury questionnaire, providing false information on the questionnaire, or using vulgar or profane language in response to a jury questionnaire subjects a citizen to show cause proceeding for contempt of court.

You must notify the Clerk & Comptroller's Office in writing of any address changes. There is a Change of Address form that can be completed, or you may use your own form/paper. The change of address request should include the following information: Case Number and Division.
