Once an OPT request status changes to Pending, the student must write USCIS to withdraw the OPT application. The request must: Be sent to the USCIS Service Center processing the application. The address is on the USCIS-issued Receipt Notice sent to the student.
If you need to report a new employer or update your employment information, complete the Add New Employer or Update Current OPT Employer Information form in the "F-1 Practical Training” menu. Once reported, ISSS will issue a new Form I-20 that will contain a travel signature valid for 6 months from the date of update.
You can only report new employment within 10 days of the employment start date. If you fail to report within 10 days or cannot access the SEVP OPT Portal, you can use the OPT Employer update request at the international student portal. ISS will then manually update your SEVIS record with the employment information.
Documenting OPT Employment Specifically, you should maintain evidence — for each job — of the position held, proof of the duration of that position, the job title, the hours worked per week, contact information for your supervisor or manager, and description of the work.

If your OPT application were ultimately denied, your only option would be to travel and re-enter with a new SEVIS record to regain F-1 status and complete your program.
Twice, if your second application is based on earning a new degree at a higher level. You must first do a full year of 12-month OPT, then apply for the STEM extension. For example, a student may earn a bachelor's degree and do 12 months of OPT, then do 24 months of STEM OPT.
Traveling while on OPT or OPT STEM Extension The student must not have exceeded the maximum OPT unemployment or OPT STEM Extension unemployment time and must not have been absent from the US for more than 5 months.
You may be fined and/or imprisoned for up to five years if you: Make a false statement or attestation to satisfy the employment eligibility verification requirements; Use fraudulent identification or employment authorization documents; or. Use documents that were lawfully issued to another person.
If you have 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you are ineligible for OPT, but part-time CPT is fine and will not stop you from doing OPT.
