All attorneys in Texas must complete fifteen (15) hours of CLE per compliance year. At least three (3) of the 15 hours must be devoted to Ethics/Professional Responsibility.

Texas requires attorneys to complete 15 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours each year. The 15 TX CLE hours must include 3 hours of Professional Responsibility / Ethics. Texas CLE Compliance Deadline: Texas attorneys must complete and report their CLE requirement by the last day of their birth month each year.

Complainants are required to use the State Bar's current grievance form, effective September 1, 2023, to report attorney misconduct. A grievance can be submitted electronically at , or the current grievance form can be downloaded from there.

After graduating from a law school approved by the American Bar Association with a doctor of jurisprudence degree, candidates must then take the bar examination – a comprehensive test of knowledge in many areas of law. After passing this test, the person is licensed to practice law.

You will automatically be given your birth month as a grace period in order to comply with MCLE requirements without a penalty. If you do not complete and report at least 15 hours of CLE by the last day of your birth month (grace peri0d), you will be in non-compliance and subject to a penalty.

If you have a Texas state ID card or driver license, it will be listed as a number (probably eight digits) labeled ID or DL on the front of the card. If you don't have a state ID card or a license, you don't have a state ID number.
