There is no bar reciprocity in California, though the state does offer a modified bar exam to those who have actively practiced law for at least four years immediately preceding their bar application.

Diploma Privilege allows our graduates to secure a license to practice law in Wisconsin without taking a bar exam. Wisconsin is one of the only states in the country that offers diploma privilege.

The written component of the exam may include performance on the MPT, the MEE, and/or locally developed essay questions. The composition and weight of these subcomponents may vary by exam administration. A total scaled score of 258 is required to pass the Wisconsin Bar Exam.

SCR 40.04(5) An applicant who has failed the Wisconsin bar examination three times is ineligible to write the Wisconsin bar examination unless special permission is given by the board under reasonable conditions as it may require.

Formal termination of services notice is required. A certified return receipt letter is recommended. You can do this on your own or have your new attorney handle it. In either case, the letter should request that all work on your case stop and that your case files be turned over to your new attorney or to you.
