There is a short three-day waiting period before you can be married in NJ. A New Jersey marriage license is valid for 6 months unless the Registrar extends the date, in which case your certificate can be valid for a maximum of 12 months. Note: if you are entering a remarriage in NJ, there is no waiting period.

You'll have to make an appointment with the city clerk to get your marriage license (201-547-5150). Also, since your partner lives in NJ then you must get married in the municipality where they reside. When you have your appointment you'll need valid ID and one witness who is over 18 years of age.

A Short Certificate is a legal document that shows the decedent's name and date of death. It will also show the name of the Executor/Executrix who has been named to handle the affairs of the estate. A Short Certificate can be obtained at the "Register of Wills" office in the county court house.
The Surrogate's Court will issue Short Certificates (Letters Testamentary) to the executor, which the executor will use to obtain access to the decedent's estate assets. The executor will then distribute the assets pursuant to the terms of the will.
