In New York State, a child is entitled to be supported by his or her parents until the age of 21. However, if the child is under 21 years of age, and is married, or self-supporting, or in the military, the child is considered to be "emancipated" and the parents' support obligation ends.
The Guidelines set a minimum child support amount of $91.00 per child per month.
The amount that can be withheld from your wages is limited by the Federal Consumer Credit Protection Act. Here are the limits: 50 percent of disposable income if an obligated parent has a second family. 60 percent if there is no second family.
However, if you are currently supporting another child or a spouse (for example, if you have remarried and had another child), the court can order that up to 50% of your wages be withheld for child support. The amount withheld from your check – about a third of your wages – is well within these limits.
To sign up for Direct Deposit, access the California State Disbursement Unit (SDU) website. Then, select “Person Receiving Support” and you will be taken to the Direct Deposit sign up option. You may now be able to sign up for Direct Deposit into a non-US bank account.

Use this information to set up direct deposit with the CRA, your employer, or save and print your form.
