FAQ

New Mexico permits window tinting for medical purposes. However, the law does not specify permitted VLT with medical exemptions. Physician or optometrist licensed in New Mexico can issue affidavit which must be in vehicle at all times.

A tint with a VLT value of 35 percent means that 35 percent of visible light will penetrate the window. The inverse of this figure, 65 percent in this case, is the amount of light blocked by the tint. In essence, the smaller the VLT percentage, the darker the tint.

If no AS-1 line is visible, tinting up to five inches below the top of the windshield is legal. In New Mexico, cars (i.e. sedans and coupes, not larger vehicles) may have a 20% VLT or lighter window tint on all side windows and on the rear windshield.

Ing to Indian laws, car windows must have a minimum visibility of 70 per cent for rear and front glasses and 50 per cent for side glasses. Any modifications to the windows that reduce visibility below this level are considered illegal.

The ban has been imposed as per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. The act mentions that the glasses of the car, including the windscreen, should have more than 70 per cent visual light transmission. Tinted glass is not allowed in India.
