The New York DTF-802 is a Statement of Transaction-Sale or Gift of Motor Vehicle, Trailer, All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), Vessel (Boat), or Snowmobile form. This form is used to report the sale or transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle, trailer, ATV, vessel, or snowmobile in New York State. The form must be completed by both the buyer(s) and seller(s) within 10 days of the sale or transfer of ownership. The owner and the settlor must complete Statement of Transaction- Sale or Gift of Motor Vehicle, Trailer, All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), Vessel (Boat), or Snowmobile (PDF) (at NY State Department of Tax and Finance) (DTF-802). If the owner and the settlor are the same person, complete Part II of form DTF-802 for a gift.

Non-titled vehicles The DMV must verify that the vehicle was registered to the current owner. The current owner must provide proof of identity (see proofs of identity). There is a fee $10 for form MV-353. The current owner can use form MV-353 and a bill of sale.

Gifted vehicle If the vehicle is transferred as a gift, indicate this on the bill of sale and indicate that the purchase price is '$0.' You must also indicate the vehicle is a gift on a Statement of Transaction {Sales Tax Form} (pdf) (at NY State Department of Tax and Finance) (DTF-802).
