New Jersey CJA Form 23: Financial Affidavit is a document used by the court to determine the financial ability of a defendant to pay for an appointed attorney in criminal cases. This form is used to assess the defendant's income, assets, debts, and other financial obligations. There are three types of New Jersey CJA Form 23: Financial Affidavit: Form 23A, Form 23B, and Form 23C. Form 23A is used to report the defendant's financial information at the time of the application for appointment of counsel. Form 23B is used to report the defendant's financial information at the time of the trial. Form 23C is used to report any changes in the defendant's financial information since the filing of Form 23A or Form 23B. This form is submitted to the court and must be signed and dated by the defendant and notarized.
