A Louisiana Request To Cancel Inscription is a legal document used to terminate an existing registration of a vehicle in the state of Louisiana. The request must be made by the registered owner or by someone holding Power of Attorney for the registered owner. The request must be made to the Office of Motor Vehicles in the state of Louisiana and must include the vehicle's license plate, make, model, and year. There are two types of Louisiana Request To Cancel Inscription: Temporary Cancellation and Permanent Cancellation. Temporary Cancellation can be requested for any reason, but will expire after 30 days. Permanent Cancellation requires a reason such as the vehicle being sold, destroyed, or moved out of state. Both types of cancellation require the registered owner to return the vehicle license plate and registration sticker to the Office of Motor Vehicles.
