Exemption from withholding To qualify for this exempt status, the employee must have had no tax liability for the previous year and must expect to have no tax liability for the current year. A Form W-4 claiming exemption from withholding is valid for only the calendar year in which it's furnished to the employer.
Issue an invoice to your customer Don't deduct the withholding tax from the value on the invoice. If you need to show the value of the withholding tax, you can do this by adding a comment or additional text. Don't show the tax as a negative value invoice line item as the income will not be accounted for in full.

Employees should complete an Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate (Form NJ-W4) and give it to their employer to declare withholding information for New Jersey purposes. New Jersey employers must furnish Form NJ-W4 to their employees and withhold New Jersey Income Tax at the rate selected.
How to fill out the New Jersey Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate? Enter your name, address, and social security number. Select your filing status by checking one box. Complete the number of allowances you are claiming. Indicate any additional amount to be deducted from each paycheck.
Line 6 Enter “EXEMPT” to indicate that you are exempt from New Jersey Gross Income Tax Withholdings, if you meet one of the following conditions: • Your filing status is SINGLE or MARRIED/CIVIL UNION PARTNER SEPARATE and your wages plus your taxable nonwage income will be $10,000 or less for the current year.
FLI can be entered on the W2 screen in box 14, with FLI in the first column and the amount in the second column.
