Virginia allows an exemption of $930 for each of the following: Yourself (and Spouse): Each filer is allowed one personal exemption. For married couples, each spouse is entitled to an exemption. When using the Spouse Tax Adjustment, each spouse must claim his or her own personal exemption.

If you will be age 65 or over by January 1, you may claim one exemption on Line 5(a). If you claim an exemption for your spouse on Line 2, and your spouse will also be age 65 or over by January 1, you may claim an additional exemption on Line 5(b). Line 6.

In general, motor vehicles and other tangible personal property owned by the spouse of a service member will be protected from Virginia taxation to the same extent as if owned by the service member.
