You must register with the Office of the City Clerk to perform a marriage ceremony in New York City. You can start the process online and complete it by mail.
If you have a Marriage Ceremony outside of the City Clerk's office, you will receive your Certificate of Marriage Registration in the mail within approximately 20 days from the date when we receive and process the Marriage License from your Marriage Officiant and process it.
When can I get married? NY State Law requires a 24-hour waiting period before a ceremony can be performed. The license is valid for 60 days from the day after you receive it.
The actual Muslim wedding is known as a nikah. Normally, the ceremony consists of reading from the Qur'an, and the exchange of vows in front of witnesses for both partners. Both parties must freely consent to the marriage. The bride's consent is especially emphasized and must be obtained without any coercion.
How do I fill this out? Gather personal information for both bride and groom. Fill in details about the marriage, including date and place. Provide information regarding the dowry and any special conditions. Include names and addresses of witnesses. Review the completed form for accuracy before submission.
You will need a birth certificate or Baptismal Certificate (if birth certificate cannot be obtained) or Naturalization Papers (if birth certificate cannot be obtained) and a photo ID (driver's license, non-driver's or work ID with a birth date on it).
