The Green Sticker allows vehicles to operate on public land all year. The Red Sticker is for motorcycles and ATVs model year 2003 and newer that fail to meet the emission standard established by the California Air Resources Board.
All vehicles operated off-highway on public lands in California are required to be (1) street-licensed or (2) registered as an off-highway vehicle (OHV).
Form REG 343 instructions are as follows: Describe the vehicle - state its identification number, make, model, fuel type, license number, model or series, body type. Indicate the type of vehicle. If it is a motorcycle, write down its engine number, and state the length and width for trailer coaches.
The sticker is affixed to the OHV. It is required for California vehicles that do not have highway registration. Currently, a Green Sticker costs $52 for each OHV and is valid for two years. Contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office to purchase your Green Sticker.
General Guidelines. Upon request, local DMV offices and headquarters processing units will provide a maximum of 25 copies of a form.
OHVs such as all-terrain vehicles, trail bikes, racing motorcycles, dune buggies, and snowmobiles do not require regular vehicle registration, but they must display an ID plate or placard issued by DMV. To register your OHV, you will need: An Application for Title or Registration (REG 343) form.
