Personal Vault is a protected folder within OneDrive that can only be accessed with a second step of identity verification. It gives you an added layer of protection for your most important files and photos like your passport, driver's license, or insurance information, so you can access them from virtually anywhere.

To take full advantage of the Personal Vault, you need a Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription. With either plan, you can add as many files to the vault as space allows. Without a Microsoft 365 plan, you can include only three files in your vault, which likely wouldn't do the trick for most people.

Try It! Download and Microsoft OneDrive from the Google Play Store or the App Store. Open the OneDrive mobile app on your Android or iOS device, and sign in with your Microsoft account. Select Personal Vault under the Files tab. Select Continue. Verify your identity by entering your password.

Before we go further, keep in mind that you get 15GB of OneDrive storage for free with a Microsoft account. While the free version of OneDrive only lets you store three documents in the Personal Vault, you can easily circumvent that restriction by adding your documents to a ZIP or other archive file first.

While OneDrive already uses the latest security measures on the Microsoft Cloud for each of your files, Personal Vault adds more security layers to log in and access important data.

OneDrive Personal Vault Personal Vault in OneDrive is protected by identity verification, so you can store your most sensitive files in the cloud without losing the convenience of anywhere access.

Right-click the OneDrive System Tray icon and select the option for View online. Sign in to OneDrive with your Microsoft Account. Under My Files, double-click the folder for Personal Vault. You'll be asked to authenticate this access through the multi-factor authentication in place for your account.
