Add a hidden input that has the same name as the checkbox with the value of 0 BEFORE the checkbox. If the checkbox is unchecked, the hidden field value will be used, if it is checked the checkbox value will be used.

There is no HTML-only method of representing a checkbox's unchecked state (e.g. value=unchecked ). All Checkboxes have a boolean Variable property... when a Checkbox is ticked this variable is set to True (and vice-versa). If you want to react to the user checking (or unchecking the checkbox) you will have to set a handler for the OnChange event of the Checkbox.
