Bates Numbering (or Bates Stamping) assigns unique identifiers to each page in a collection of documents. It's a way to index document contents so they're easier to find later.

Insert cursor into the ?Right Footer Text? box and then click on ?Insert Bates Number?. Add an alpha prefix and specify the number of digits you want. Click Ok. Adobe's coding will be inserted in the ?Right Footer Text? box and you will see a preview of your Bates number.

You cannot edit Bates page numbering after you've added it to a document. You can, however, delete Bates numbering and apply a different Bates numbering formula.

To remove Bates numbers from a PDF file: On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Marks group, click the arrow next to Bates Number and click Remove Bates Numbering. Click OK at the confirmation prompt, and the tool will scan the document and remove all instances of Bates numbering.

Bates stamping is the process of applying a set of identifying numbers to a document collection of PDFs to label and identify them. You can use DocPreviewer to apply a Bates stamp to documents ? even if you don't import them into a case spreadsheet.

Choose, Advanced > Document Processing > Bates Numbering > Remove. It is possible to run Batch operations on a PDF Portfolio.

Select Edit > Insert > Bates Numbering > Remove to permanently remove Bates numbers from currently open files. Other header and/or footer elements, if any, are retained. An information box instructs you how to interpret the results of the operation.

To change the order in which Bates numbers are assigned, select a file, then drag it or click Move Up or Move Down.
