The Vehicle Registration Mark or VRM (often called a number plate or registration plate) helps indicate when a vehicle was first registered.

Look for the official website of the government agency that issued the license plate. If you can't find the information online, you can always call a motor vehicles agency office and ask. Explain that you want to find a vehicle's registered owner and the only information you have is a license plate number.

From 1st March 2023, new plates will include '23' to show it's a brand new car and from September this will change to '73'. The first two letters of a number plate show what region the vehicle was registered in.
