Wages shall be paid regularly. Except where other appropriate arrangements exist which ensure the payment of wages at regular intervals, the intervals for the payment of wages shall be prescribed by national laws or regulations or fixed by collective agreement or arbitration award.

(1) In the case of workers whose wages are calculated on a piece-work or output basis, the maximum intervals for the payment of wages should, so far as possible, be so fixed as to ensure that wages are paid not less often than twice a month at intervals not exceeding sixteen days.

Payment of Wages Act, 1936 The Payment of Wages Act of 1936 governs how wages are paid to employees (direct and indirect). The statute is intended to protect employees from unlawful employer deductions and/or unjustifiable salary delays.

Section 3 of Minimum wages Act, 1948 lays down that the Appropriate Government shall be empowered to fix the minimum rate of wages in a manner which is prescribed in the Act. It shall fix the wages which has to be paid to the employees employed in employment under Part I and Part II of the schedule.
