It's important for your contract to set out the scope of the services you'll be providing, along with a schedule. State when your services start, when they will end, and what you'll be shooting, and include a schedule or timeline so that everyone involved knows what, when, where, and how.

Most commercial photographers charge a cancellation fee of 100% of the project-related expenses they incur, and 50% of their Creative Fee (photography + usage fees), for photo shoots that clients cancel. Many photographers also increase the cancellation fee the closer the cancellation date is to the photo shoot date.

Proper contract cancellation should be well-documented. Both parties should specify the reason for the cancellation and when it took place. If any part of the obligations on either side of the contract were fulfilled before the termination, this should be stated clearly.
