Rename a category Click the source column cell that contains the category name you want to change. Note: The summary row label containing the category name can't be edited. Type a new name, then press Return.

You can create categories by selecting particular rows, or Numbers can organize your data automatically using values in one or more columns (called source columns) that you select. When you create a category, all rows that share a common value in the source column are treated as groups.

To edit the data you're using in your Numbers chart, select the chart and tap the Format icon (paintbrush icon) at the top. Choose Edit Series to make changes to each individual series of data. Select Edit References to remove or add data to the chart.

Select the rows you want to group in your table. Move the pointer over the empty square to the left of the selection, click the arrow that appears, then choose Create Group for Selected Rows.

Tap a chart, then tap Edit References. Do any of the following: Remove a data series: Tap the dot for the row or column you want to delete, then tap Delete Series. Add an entire row or column as a data series: Tap the header cell for the row or column.

Add or delete a data series Click the chart, click Edit Data References, then do any of the following in the table containing the data: Remove a data series: Click the dot for the row or column you want to delete, then press Delete on your keyboard.

Tap the column you want to use to create the category. To add a subcategory, tap Add a Category and choose another column. For example, in the shirt sales table, you could add a subcategory based on salesperson to view sales by month and by salesperson.

Select the table. , tap Categories, then tap Edit. next to the category you want to move, then drag it up or down. Tap Done.
