Modify Comment Resolution For Free

Marking a comment as a 'resolved comment' grants the ability to stay on top of tasks in a multi-user environment. It also adds an additional layer of intuitiveness and informational transparency that's often seen in high-performing collaborative editing platforms such as Google Docs and MS Word.

The Resolve feature is grayed out under the following conditions: The document was created in or last saved in Word 2010 or an earlier version. The document is in compatibility mode. If the document is in compatibility mode, newer Word features cannot be used.

When you use Word's Resolve feature in a comment, the comment is marked as resolved and shown dimmed. However, the comment remains in the document until you delete it.

There are two ways you can delete or remove comments from a Word document: To delete a single comment in the document, right-click the comment, and choose Delete Comment. To delete all the comments in the document, go to the Review tab, click the down-arrow on Delete, and choose Delete All Comments in Document.

Removing individual comments is simple: right-click on the comment, select Delete Comment, and it will erase it completely. You can also hover your mouse over the comment and select Resolve. This will leave a record of the comment in file history for later review.

Resolving a comment allows you to mark the comment as finished. This approach helps the original writer better track what's been changed and helps the reviewer see how recommended changes were implemented. When you resolve a comment in Word, a record of the comment is preserved.

Resolving a comment on Microsoft Word leaves it marked as 'Resolved' near the comment so that anyone collaborating on the document knows this. If you choose to delete the comment, it will be removed entirely and will not be found afterwards.

You can edit a comment by selecting Edit comment under the More thread actions drop down menu, which can be found in the top right hand corner of the comment. Note: In Word for the Web we have restricted the Edit comment option to be available only on comments that you have authored.
