What are the three types of FSC label? There are three types of FSC label, and these offer assurances that the product is either made with or contains forest-based materials from reclaimed sources, or from FSC-certified forests. The three types of FSC label are 100%, FSC Mixed, and FSC Recycled.

FSC 100%: all sourced materials of the labelled product come from FSC-certified forests; FSC Recycled: the materials used for the products are 100 per cent recycled; FSC Mix: the product is made with a mix of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled sources and/or FSC controlled wood.

A major difference between the credit and percentage systems is that ALL the manufacturing outputs can bear the FSC MIX label if there is a minimum of 70% of FSC 100% (or Mix Credit) and/or FSC-reclaimed content, and you cannot use the FSC MIX label at all unless this threshold is met.

At least 70% of the material for an FSC Mix product must come from FSC certified sources or is recycled material and the rest can be controlled wood. FSC Recycled means all of the forest-based material in a product is made from 100% recycled content.

FSC Mix. The product is made with a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC-controlled wood. While controlled wood doesn't come from FSC-certified forests, it mitigates the risk of the material originating from unacceptable sources.

There are two types of FSC certification: Forest Management and Chain of Custody. In both types of certification, independent FSC-accredited Certification Bodies ("certifiers") verify that all FSC-certified forests conform to the requirements contained within an FSC forest management standard.
