Payroll records, collective bargaining agreements, sales, and purchase records should be saved for at least three years. Wage calculation records, such as time cards, wage rates tables, work and time schedules, and records of increases to or deductions from wages should be saved for two years.

We recommend that you keep your pay stubs (at least the year-to-date ones) for 6 years after filing your tax return. This rule applies to all documents related to your tax returns. That way you'll have everything you need in case you get audited, which will hopefully never happen.

A pay stub is a record of your wages and includes information like the pay period (a time period between two set dates), their rate of pay (usually dollars per hour), number of hours worked, and deductions, plus any extras such as overtime pay or vacation pay.

Keeping records. As an employer, you must keep employment and payroll records for each employee for at least 36 months. When employment ends, you must also keep the employee's records for another 36 months.
