Exceptions - What does not need to be transcribed: Speaker hesitations and disfluencies, such as ?um?, ?uh,? ?mmm? do not need to be transcribed. It is ok to include these in the transcription, but not absolutely necessary.

Rule of thumb: a comma indicates a pause in speech. Still, commas are more than simple pause-markers; they help the reader understand the structure of the sentence and resolve ambiguity.
