Bookmarklets are natively available in all major browsers, including Mozilla Firefox and Chromium-based browsers like Chrome or Brave.

The bookmarklet concept appeared in Netscape's JavaScript guide in 1998, explaining how to use JavaScript code snippets to do things that the browser did not offer from the different menus. In 2021, current browsers and extensions already implement most of those functions, but they are still helpful.

So, to add a bookmarklet to your browser, just create an HTML <a> link element using a URL that starts with ?javascript:?, followed by URL-encoded JS, then drag it to your bookmark toolbar. This creates a bookmark with JS code ? a bookmarklet!

How to block bookmarklets? Sign into your Google Admin Console. Go to Devices > Chrome > Settings. Select your students' OU on the left panel. Scroll to URL blocking. Click Save.

Open the web page you want to run the bookmarklet on, tap your location bar, and start searching for the name of the bookmarklet. Tap the bookmarklet's name to run it on the current page. Note that the bookmarklet only appears here because we have it saved as a bookmark in Chrome.
