Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) represents a situation in which entity noncompliance has placed the health and safety of recipients in its care at risk for serious injury, serious harm, serious impairment or death.

Immediate Jeopardy Triggers The team must investigate and use professional judgment to determine if the situation has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, injury, impairment or death. Harm does not have to occur for an Immediate Jeopardy tag.

To assist residents, facilities must inform them of the name, specialty, and means of contacting the physician responsible for the resident's care. Residents have the right to participate in care planning meetings.

Imminent jeopardy to public health and safety means an immediate and significant threat of serious harm to human well-being, including conditions that may result in serious injury, or death, caused by Tribal action or inaction or as otherwise provided in an AFA.
