There are three kinds of wages minimum wage, fair wage & living wage. At the bottom of the ladder there is the minimum basic wage which the employer of any industrial labour must pay in order to be allowed to continue in industry.

The National Floor Level Minimum Wage (NFLMW) is the minimum wage below which no state government can fix the minimum wage. Different states set their own minimum wages. The NFLMW was brought into effect in 1996 by the Indian central government.
