Draft mode was used to show the user what the print job would look like (while saving some ink/toner) before printing the final copy. Add a DRAFT watermark Choose Layout > Watermark. In the Insert Watermark box, select Text, and then choose DRAFT.

Put a watermark on all pages Go to Design > Watermark > Custom Watermark. Choose Picture Watermark and select a picture, or choose Text watermark and type your watermark text in the Text box. Select OK.

To insert a watermark into a document on the Design tab, in the Page Background group, click the Watermark dropdown and select your required watermark. This will appear on the first page of the document. If you want it to appear on every page in the document, from the Watermark dropdown, click Custom Watermark.

On the Page Layout tab, select Watermark > Custom Watermark. Choose Picture Watermark and select a picture, or choose Text watermark and type your watermark text in the Text box. Select OK.

Double-click near the top of the page to open the header. Move the cursor over the watermark until you see the four-headed arrow, and then click the watermark to select it. Under Picture Tools, select Format. Try selecting Recolor, Brightness, or Contrast.

Select Design > Watermark. (In Word 2010 or 2007, select Page Layout > Watermark.) Select Remove Watermark.

Watermarks are built in the header and having different header settings can make them disappear on other pages. They are simply graphic elements that are in the header.
