Debenture Suspense account is an adjustment account which is prepared at the time of issue of debentures as collateral security. They are debited because it is a temporary account. created to record Debentures on the credit side and when the loan is repaid, a reverse entry is passed to cancel thedebentures issued.

In this method, the debentures issued as collateral security is noted in the journal. On the asset side of the balance sheet, the Debenture Suspense account should appear. On the liability side, the Debentures should appear. The entry will get reversed once the company repays the loan to cancel it.

In case of issue of debentures as collateral security, the effect in the Balance Sheet is nullified because balance of Debenture Suspense Account is deducted from Debentures Account.

A journal entry is made on the issue of debentures as a collateral security, Debentures Suspense Account is debited because no cash is received for such issue.
