If you reside in Georgia and have not earned Georgia wages in the past two years but earned wages in another state, go to a GDOL career center to obtain information for filing a claim against the proper state. We will also register you for employment services.

The Combined Wage Claim (CWC) program allows an unemployed individual with employment and wages in more than one state to combine his/her wages to establish a CWC under the law of a single state to qualify for benefits.

Workers do not pay into the UI program. Georgia 2021 House Bill 1090 amended Code Section 34-8-193 of Georgia Employment Security Law to create an adjustable maximum number of weeks of regular UI eligibility to range from 14 to 26 weeks based upon a designated average statewide unemployment rate.

You are typically entitled to up to 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits during your benefit year. You might use up your benefits before the end of your benefit year. If that happens, you must wait until your benefit year ends until you can be eligible for benefits again.

If you were fired from your job, you will not be able to draw benefits if your former employer can show that you were fired for failure to follow rules, orders, or instructions, or for misconduct on the job. The only way to know for sure whether you are eligible if you are fired is to file a claim.

If you worked in Georgia and now reside in another state, you may be eligible to collect Georgia unemployment benefits.

Interstate. These claims can be filed in California against earnings from another state. For example, an unemployed New Yorker who just moved to California will file an "interstate claim."
