There are many forms of bullets to choose from. The most common forms are the heavy black dot ( 25cf ) and the open circle ( 25cb ). Other common bullet choices include squares (filled and open), diamonds, dashes and checkmarks.

To start a numbered list, type 1, a period (.), a space, and some text. Word will automatically start a numbered list for you. Type and a space before your text, and Word will make a bulleted list. To complete your list, press Enter until the bullets or numbering switch off.

Usually if you just press Enter in an empty bullet point (with no text), the style will return to Normal. That's assuming you've used the Bullets button to apply bullets, which are in the List Paragraph style.

Press Tab on a new line to move to the next level of the list and place a sub-bullet. You can also click the Increase List Level icon on the Home tab for the same effect. To move back to the main level of the list, click Decrease List Level or press Shift-Tab with the cursor at the beginning of a line.

I noticed that you can Tab to go in (make sub bullets), and Shift-tab to go back out. This means you can Shift-tab to go back to the bullet level you would expect and not have that gap.

They are quick, easy to read, and help to break up larger chunks of text. Bullet points should have capital letters and full stops if they are a full sentence. For example: The capital of England is London. The largest city in France is Paris.

Bullet point structure Your points should be consistent, either all sentences or all fragments. Make sure the grammatical structure of your bullet points is parallel by starting each with the same part of speech. For instance, if you start one point with an adjective, start them all with an adjective.

Hold down the "Shift" key and press "Tab" to back up the bullet point by one level. Repeat this process to back it up further.

Insert a bulleted or numbered list On the View tab, click Normal. Click in the text box or placeholder where you want to add bulleted or numbered text. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Bullets or Numbering. , and begin typing your list. Press Return to create a new list item.

If a complete sentence introduces the bulleted list, each item in the list should end with a full stop, not a colon, and each point should begin with a capital letter.
