After you file a claim for unemployment benefits, follow these steps to make sure you get your benefit payments. It takes at least three weeks to process a claim and issue payment to most eligible workers. With the large amount of claims we are processing, there may be delays.

After you've applied for unemployment benefits, you will get a letter from IDES stating whether you have been approved or denied. You must appeal within the legal time limit which is usually 30 days, but may be shorter. Make sure you do not miss the time you are given to appeal. Late appeals will not be considered.
