Append Footnote Text For Free

Insert footnotes and endnotesClick where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote.On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote.Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote.Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.

Word does not allow the insertion of either footnotes or endnotes into text boxes. You can, however, insert them into frames. A frame is a document object that has been around since the very earliest days of Word, but they received less and less attention since the introduction of text boxes.

When you are referencing the same source in two (or more) footnotes the second and subsequent references should be entered as "Ibid." and the page number for the relevant footnote. Use "Ibid." without any page number if the page is the same as the previous reference.

Insert the first footnote by clicking where the first footnote needs to be placed. Open the 'References' ribbon. Select the 'Insert Footnote' button and enter in the footnote information. Insert the second footnote by clicking where you need it.

If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on). For even more formatting options, click the Format button in the lower-left corner.

Click the "References" tab in the ribbon. In the Footnotes section, click "Insert Footnote" or "Insert Endnote." You should see a superscript appear at the cursor and the cursor will move to the footer of the page. Type the note. Return to the main body of the document and continue writing.
