42 U.S.C. Sec. 408(A)(3) MAKING OR CAUSING TO BE MADE A FALSE STATEMENT OR REPRESENTATION OF MATERIAL FACT FOR USE IN DETERMINING A FEDERAL BENEFIT prohibits individuals from making false statements or representations of material fact for use in determining a federal benefit. This law applies to both intentional and unintentional false statements or representations made for the purpose of receiving a federal benefit. This includes misrepresenting facts such as income, employment, and other information related to federal benefit eligibility. This law also applies to individuals who knowingly cause a false statement or representation of material fact to be made for the purpose of receiving a federal benefit. Violations of this law can result in criminal penalties, including fines, imprisonment, and loss of benefits.
